Can you tell me what files I MUST keep in my Public_html (for example, what files were there when I first got my account)

Im having a file clear-out and dont want to delete anything I shouldn't.

Many Thanks

You would also keep your custom error documents (/404.shtml, etc.) there, as well as robots.txt and favicon.ico. You will need either an index file (index.html, index.htm, index.php, etc.) there for a visitor to enter your site, or entries in .htaccess to redirect (URL rewrite) visitors to a lower-level directory. Other than a landing page or entry script, it's best practice to keep application-specific code in lower level directories. Especially, if you want to install canned applications (a forum, a store, a gallery, etc.), they should each have their own directory tree. This keeps them fully separated and out of each other's hair.

Public_html contains the files that are shown by the public. After publishing website on the web which links are shown by site that we can include in public.html.
