OK, I am sure this is going to be a dumb question for some of you, but I have looked, searched and have just drove myself a little crazy with this.

OK lets say I am building a web for a church.  Normally I don't let people go in and play, but the church can't afford to pay for the amount of updates they want to do.  LOL the pastor wants to post daily, there will be other groups that will be added and need to update or post things weekly or monthly.

So I need to know how to set up users and groups.  I think I am fairly clear on changing permissions.

I liked it better when no one but me had access to the webs I built.  Doh

Thanks hopefully you guys can save me from more mental meltdown.  Roll

I'm not sure there's any real way to distinguish between "groups" and "others" in an LP Web server environment, or even how you would set up users anyway. This is assuming you're talking about Linux/Unix permissions for user (owner), group, other (world).

Rather than trying to give a bunch of people raw access to this site, have you considered implementing it as a CMS (Content Management System)? It's a database-driven page content system, more than a mere blog, where you should be able to set up accounts and passwords, along with permission to edit/alter various parts of the site for each account. Take a look at the CMSs in cPanel > Fantastico, as well as others that are available.

So long as this remains "your" Web site under your control (rather than something you're subhosting out to your church), I wouldn't expect it to have any problems with LP's Terms of Service.

You might want to take a look at this software program that might work for you and your group --> Flyspeck

I had looked into this in the past for my sister's non-profit site, and I sent the info to them, but they never implemented it (they always just had me update the site), so I can't tell you how good or not it is.

They have a Demo, so you might want to test it out and see if it works for you guys.

It's a license based program, but unlike many others, you only need to buy one per domain (not per user). Any amount of users can use it per domain.

Check it out and if you end up using it and find you like it, post back here to let people know in case anybody else wants to use something like this, as well Smile
