I am trying to go from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7.

I am trying to go from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7.

The 32 bit Vista was installed by mistake.  My system can handle a 64 bit OS.  Now I have finally found the time to upgrade.  But the 64 bit intallation DVD can't be read from my OS.  Any Advice?

Do I need to boot from that DVD drive?  Will that work?

In general I would always recommend a clean install rather than an upgrade. Obviously make sure you have all your driver installation files ready for Windows 7, and any software installation files you need. Get a copy of your data. Boot from the Windows 7 DVD and run a fresh install.

Be aware when moving to a 64-bit version of Windows that whilst some 32-bit software will work fine, some will be slow to perform and some will not work at all.

There is no possibilities to "convert" a 32 bit system in to a 64 bit system. You will need to do a "Fresh" installation of Windows 7 operating system.
